6.3 Metadata and Asset Registry Design


Metadata management is critical for linking the physical asset with its on-chain representation. Parax implements a decentralized asset registry smart contract that stores cryptographic hashes of all relevant metadata, including provenance documents, verification attestations, custody certificates, and transaction history. These hashes are anchored on-chain, enabling immutable, verifiable references without incurring prohibitive on-chain storage costs. Metadata itself is hosted off-chain in decentralized storage networks or trusted custodial servers, with continuous integrity checks executed by oracles.
